Home repair in Georgetown, DC
Georgetown is Federal and Victorian rowhouses from the early 1800s through the 1890s, the oldest houses in the city, under the Old Georgetown Board, which reviews every exterior change. Plaster on brick, wide plank floors, six over six wood windows, shutters, and basements with stone walls that were never meant to be dry.
Or call or text (240) 858-0149. Hours 8 to 6, Monday through Saturday.
Federal houses under the Old Georgetown Board
The work here is careful. A wood window sash re corded and re glazed, a shutter rehung on its original pintle, a plaster wall repaired with a lime based compound, a front door that is 150 years old and worth every hour of fitting. Inside, the kitchens and baths get the same installs as anywhere, with the licensed trade where the code says.
Georgetown rowhouses have wood shutters hung on iron pintles set in the brick, and the shutter that hangs crooked has a pintle that loosened in the mortar. We reset the pintle with an epoxy anchor and rehang the shutter, which the Board treats as a repair.

Georgetown questions
- What does the Old Georgetown Board need to see?
- Any exterior change. A like for like repair with the same material usually does not need a filing. We tell you which before pricing it.
- Can you repair an original six over six window?
- Yes. New cord, new glazing, a consolidated sill, and the sash stays. Replacement is the last resort and the Board agrees.
- Can you rehang a shutter?
- Yes. We reset the pintle in the brick with an epoxy anchor and rehang the shutter on it.
